To Anybody Who Tried to Talk to me Yesterday

I was a bit incoherent. Sorry. I have been the only one at work for 3 days now, and I have not been talking to people a lot. So, when you tried to engage me in conversation yesterday I was a bit out of sorts. It is kinda like that first person you talk to in the morning, but more so. Anyway, sorry.

P.S. I do very much want to thank you for making me realize that I am becoming a bit of a gloomy gus.

Hell Week

I am entering my last week of hard exercise before my test, then a week of more light stuff:
Today: run 10K, practice TKD
  • ~10K in 53:48
  • TKD practice: rough!
Tue: Bike to work, TKD class
  • Well, I did not set any records, but my time was not horrid. Though my knee is starting to bug me.
  • Made it home in not too bad a time, but the suspenders on my shorts are rubing my nipple raw, and I can't decide if I like it or not. ;)
  • So, I am a dumbass and added TKD practice before the TKD workout.
  • Technique, forms, and breaking in class. My hand hurts from where a 2nd Dan hit it instead of the board.
Wen: Bike to work, practice TKD
  • Ride in was SLOW!! And hurty. Though slow for me now is still a lot faster than slow for me a year ago.
  • Ride home. There is something badly wrong with me. At a stop sign a pretty girl started to talk to me, and I just tossed my reply over my shoulder cuz I was wanted to be going as fast as I could. And the funny thing is that as fast as I could is damed slow. Sigh.
  • Practice was a little rough, I just could not get my muscles to function.
Th: Practice Test
  • Ah, rest day. W-o-o, H-o-o!
  • Practice test went OK, I "showed a lot of improvement, but still need more" Sigh. But I think I will do OK, I got some concrete things I can work on over the next week, and some of the things I was messing up where directly related to my being physically worn, and I fully plan to be in the best cardio condition in the room (work to my strengths). Oh, and I kinda hurt my hand trying a new break.
Friday: Bike to work, take the long way home, My boss added a new item, Kayaking.
  • My hand is pretty stiff, I am hoping this will not affect me too much.
  • Aside from being preposterously slow the ride in was OK. My had did not bother me as the handlebars are thick enough that I don't need to close my hand too much.
  • The Kayak was fun, but I got sunburned, and the hill by my work is looking taller and taller as the day goes on.
  • 1:24:00, 17.5 mi, 12.5 mph. That was actualy such a nice ride that I will definitly do it from time to time on my way home.
Sat: Tkd class, TKD Sparing class
Sun: Practice TKD, Big bike ride
Monday: Run 10K, practice TKD

Lets see how much of it I actually do.

What the FUCK

"A representative for TIMES UP! tells us that the cyclist in this video was arrested, held for 26 hours, and charged with attempted assault and resisting arrest."

Best Quote Ever

I don't know if it was fictitious or just something people thought up... - Big Bill Broonzy

Short, Sweet, To the point. AKA: To Sammy's House

I am rather busy today, so I do not have much time for a big ride. I have to get my promotion documents in by 7pm tomorrow. But I mustn't neglect my training so I will just ride straight up the hill.

Ok, google maps is driving me ape shit, the road I am going on exists on some portions of gmaps, but not others. I can draw out the route, but if I try to link the route the road is not there. Grrr.

Short Hair

People keep asking me to post a picture of what I look like with short hair. But I have been unable to find somebody who can take an attractive picture of it. I am starting to think that the problem is not the photographers but my face. So this will have to do for now:

Back from Irvine

Was at Irvine Th-Fri instrumenting a building so as they can build a new one just like it.
I do like me a good squigly line now and again. Nothing much interesting about the trip, exept the restaurant next to the hotel was a "Hooters". Very strange place. Why do the watresses come by and write there "names" on a napkin?
------
Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell this story.
So, I took 2 geophones (kinda like what they use to measure earthquakes with) on the plane. Well these are very delicate and sensitive to orientation, so I took them carry on (Sensors, laptop, analyzer, I was very unhappy and almost had to send the analyzer down to check in cuz the flight was too crowded, it would not have survived on account of it not having the proper packaging, but I digress) anyway the gophones are two cylinders of metal about 4 inches tall by 3 inches diameter with a wire attached to the end. I don't even want to think about what they look like in the x-ray. So on the way home (not on the way there, go figure) was was sent to the bomb sniffing machine and they wiped it down and put it through the gizmo. Just as the swap was inserted in the machine looking for the smallest particles of explosive residue I had a horrible thought.

We use these things to monitor explosions.

Climbing Claremont

Yup, Claremont is steep, like 20% in spots steep. But it was really nice, there was almost no traffic going up Claremont, but down Centennial was a little dicey, I found out the max my breaks can do. Oh, and Grizzly peak was funny, cuz a Fucking Prius was holding up a line of cars, and me.
Dist: 10.96 mi
Time: 1:02:55
Max: 36.7 mph
Ave: 10.4 mph

How often does this happen?

  • It is much cooler (temperature wise)
  • My balance is slightly off
  • I probably don't need to own 3 hair brushes
  • I am constantly moving my phantom hair out of the way
  • Showers don't take any time at all

Hide n' Seek and Croquet

Just got back from Cleveland, and found it to be a very nice town. I was there to visit dear friends Fey and Mark and Steve and Vera. This is why I like math better than english ((Fey && Mark) && (Steve && Vera)). There, much more precise.
Anyway, there are many fabulous restaurants, There is a great closed air market. A nice university. And shitty weather.

In the Moment

On a few rare occasions, I have managed that zen place of being in the moment. The times that this has happened I have been going fast. Perhaps too fast. Driving a race car, stamping on the pedals of my bike, expending the last bit of energy running down a trail. Every time this has happened I have been able to significantly improve on my abilities.
The funny thing that happens, happens right after. I start to think about head injuries. See the activities that I am engaging in when this happens tend to be at risk for head injures. And the head injured tend not to have any memories of the event or actions leading up to it. This then gets me thinking about The moment (that is obviously long past) will be lost, and so will the current one.
The whole thing gives me a very non-linear time feeling.

Dirty

So, I get back from driving from LV and back; well surprise, surprise, my car is filthy. I was about to wash it (ok, pay somebody else to wash it) when I noticed that a molding from the fire hydrant incident had come lose. Took it back to the body shop and they said that they wont get the part till Monday and that I should not wash the car till then as it is not as water tight as it should be.

So, if you see my car in the next week or so, for once in my life the filthiness of my car is not my fault.
