Giving Propriety the Finger

So, I have been running a bit for the past year or so, and I like to graph and plot things (It is true, I am a nerd). Well Dr. Strangelove recommended that I buy a Nike + iPod kit, which has some very nice features for this. It is a very nice product and I do think that it would be worthwhile to buy a pair of Nike shoes to go with it, but the trouble is I don't have a Nike foot, I have an Asics foot. But fear not, I put my engineering degree to good use:

1) Assemble the materials. This is everything I used

I was actualy originaly planing on useing a Mylar bag, but fortunitly I remembered that this is a radio system. Ooops. But then I saw an old glove, and thought "Perfict"

2) Cut a finger off to use as a pocket for the device

Any of the fingers would work, but I thought it would be appropriate to use this one.
3) Lace the pocket into the shoe and place the device in the pocket

4) Finish laceing the shoe making sure that the pocket is on the outside of the laces and the top is closed up.

5) Run

P.S. Works like a champ.

If you are in the path of this, please leave. Now.

This thing is a monster.

New Segment: Lists My Batshit Neighbor Leaves Me.

So she is going out of town for a week and I am watering her plants. Good god she has a lot of them. She try's to give me verbal instructions on how to do with her 50+ plants, but, cuz I am a prick, I insist she gives me a list. But the issue is she does not seem to under stand what a list is. So without further delay, the "list":
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Patritia
1. Water plants outside by your entry way
2. On stairwell water
3x
water on THUR, SAT, MON
3. Water on balcony
as much as you can -
I usualy do everyday
1X a day
- with heat, try to do EVERY OTHER DAY?
(Smiley face here)
4. 2 keys-
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This one is MUCH more coherent than the last one was, though I should point out that she left me with 3 keys. I should also point out there are plants in other locations that I am not sure what to do with, and she verbally told me that I can use a cup or some other sort of container to transport the water.
I hope I remember that part.
Cup, cup, cup. I have to remember to use a cup.

The Difference Between Pro and Am

Went to the classic car races yesterday. Good fun.
In the 2nd to last race of the day one Bobby Rahal took a over a car that had qualified in the last 3/4 (A phenomenal driver, owner, manager, and from what I hear an upstanding kind of guy (He co-owns a racing empire with David Letterman, and he is also the guy who "discovered" Danica Patric)). There was a crash on one of the lead up laps and the day was running late so the race was shorted to 7 laps from the original 10. He won.
Then the next group started to get on the track, but the car that had qualified first was just sitting there, we looked at the program and the driver was Mr. Rahal. As the cars are on the parade lap, a golf cart comes zooming up, and he gets straped in and flies to the end of the pit. The rest of the field drives by, the green flag is out, and Rahal is then given permission to enter the track.
The rest of the cars are up to speed and the fist cars are around the first bend by the time he starts to move.
This is when the announcer tells us that due to time constraints the race will be over at 5:59 PM, which was 10 minutes away.
Rahal did not win.
But he did make the pass for 2nd as they crossed the finish line.

Preparedness

When I was small I used to play a bit of chess. I was only in one tournament and I had to pull out of that cuz my mom had threatened dire consequences if I came home late. The funny thing was that she punished me for pulling out of the tournament. But I digress.
I was in the 4th grade at the time, and still trying to figure out the world (ok, I am still trying to figure it out, but that's not the point). Anyway, if you would just let me tell the story. I noticed that the person who set up there pieces faster usually won the game.
My father would almost always get his pieces out before me.
My fellow students would rarely get out first.
And believe it or not, I once almost got my pieces out as fast as Master Elisabeth Shaunesy.

Sometimes I think I was smarter then than I am now.

P.S. I am starting to think I just did something big, and now I can't sleep.

Testis

Belt test went fairly well right up to the end. I was kinda shocked though, that by my third round of sparing, I had nothing left in my quads. But at the end we did breaking, and I did a self hold roundhouse (I held the board out at arms length and kicked it to break) The board went flying 50 ft. There was silence for a second, and I was thinking "oh, shit, what did I do wrong?". Then there was mad cheering and at least 3 panel members where grinning!
It was RAD!
Then I had a couple of beers at Jupiter with my training partners.
Then I went home, took a shower, and tried to watch TV.
.. Fell asleep on the sofa at 7 pm, went to bed, still over slept. And man am I sore!

Arrrrgh

I just found out that my test will be on hardwood, not the matted surface I have been practicing on. That combined with the fact that my partner has been a no show in practice is starting to make me just a tad bit terrified.

Last Big Training Push

20.91 mi
2h, 2m, 28s
10.2 mph

Marin is a BITCH!!! Surprisingly my arms were the limiting factor.
And one thing I did not think about is that, while most of the hill is in the shade, but the last 2 blks are in full sun.

El TOyonal is also a very nice climb and shade most of the way, but for the last bit. Sigh.
It also sucks to get lost on a bike while climbing a hill. :(

Anyway my test is in one week, so I will be doing slightly more interesting things than exersizing. Maby.
