Went to the classic car races yesterday. Good fun.
In the 2nd to last race of the day one Bobby Rahal took a over a car that had qualified in the last 3/4 (A phenomenal driver, owner, manager, and from what I hear an upstanding kind of guy (He co-owns a racing empire with David Letterman, and he is also the guy who "discovered" Danica Patric)). There was a crash on one of the lead up laps and the day was running late so the race was shorted to 7 laps from the original 10. He won.
Then the next group started to get on the track, but the car that had qualified first was just sitting there, we looked at the program and the driver was Mr. Rahal. As the cars are on the parade lap, a golf cart comes zooming up, and he gets straped in and flies to the end of the pit. The rest of the field drives by, the green flag is out, and Rahal is then given permission to enter the track.
The rest of the cars are up to speed and the fist cars are around the first bend by the time he starts to move.
This is when the announcer tells us that due to time constraints the race will be over at 5:59 PM, which was 10 minutes away.
Rahal did not win.
But he did make the pass for 2nd as they crossed the finish line.
